United States USS Parche SSN-683 Cold War Era 1/350

Submarine in 1/350 scale done in acrylics and oils for weathering. The base for all my submarines I keep at the same size, hand cut hardwood and painted with a miniature slip for the sub to be displayed on. The base contains three things - the national flag of origin, a human for size comparison in 1/350 just above and to the right of the flag (look closely) and believe it or not you can scan the QR code to the right with your cellphone camera (use the side view photo) and get lots of information on the submarine in question!

Most decorated vessel in US naval history. She had 9 Presidential Unit Citations, 10 Navy Unit Commendations and 13 Naval Expeditionary medals. Her uniques design allowed her to settle on the bottom of the ocean floor on her four skids. This allowed the dive crews to go out through the bottom of the hull and tap into transoceanic communication trunks and listen to messages being routed through the Soviet Union’s communications network. She was scrapped in November of 2006.

WW2 Sd.KFZ.232 Eight Wheel Drive Armored Car Desert Brown

Tamiya’s Sd.Kfz.232 in original “desert brown”. The 232’s shipped to North Africa were in their brown paint before being repainted in their desert yellow but quite a few were never repainted in the field as depicted here. Being a Tamiya kit there were no surprises and was a fun build. I added desert dust pigment to complete the weathering along with some paint chipping in areas. The large antenna array is done in its original German grey.

Over 15 modifications/changes and additions were made to this build including hull texturing, drilling out of machine gun barrel, empty extinguisher bracket, airbrushed stencils, sighting optics and front spare track holder with tracks.
